Q: How’s Brodie Croyle today?

HERM EDWARDS: “He’s a little sore but he practiced.”

Q: Do you think he’ll be ready to go on Sunday?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, depending on how he feels tomorrow. Thigpen went down with a knee [injury] so we’re going to do an MRI tomorrow.”

Q: In practice?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, today. He got rolled up on and a guy kind of tripped over him.”

Q: What about Damon Huard?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, he practiced. He’s fine.”

Q: What about Donnie Edwards? If he’s injured who’s in his spot?

EDWARDS: “Hamstring [injury]. Keyaron Fox is over there and Thomas is at the backup “Mike.” Right now if Donnie wasn’t playing it would be Fox. He’d be the “Will.” Kendrell Bell would be the “Sam” and Harris the “Mike.” [Derrick Johnson is excused on the death of his father.]

Q: So you don’t know about Derrick yet if he’s going to be available?

EDWARDS: “No, I don’t know what his status is going to be at this point in time.”

Q: Is there a possibility that he might not play?

EDWARDS: “Could be.”

Q: Do you expect Donnie to go on Sunday?

EDWARDS: “It’s questionable right now. I’ll know more later in the week. I don’t want to answer that right now. Later on we’ll find out.”

Q: What about Larry Johnson?

EDWARDS: “He practiced a little bit in the individual stuff.”

Q: So we shouldn’t read anything into that for Sunday?

EDWARDS: “Nah, he’s out. He won’t be ready by Sunday.”

Q: We’ve talked a little bit about injury, but it isn’t all injuries now, it’s deaths in the family, too. It’s getting real thin here isn’t it?

EDWARDS: “It’s not college football. You only have so many players. You don’t have 100. There are going to be some young guys who have an opportunity to play, like I said. If we were playing today our [offensive] tackles would be Will Svitek and Herb Taylor. That’s OK if that’s the way we’ve got to do it. They have to go play. If Donnie and Derrick aren’t available then Nate Harris and Fox will have to play. There’s nothing you can do.”

Q: But Svitek and Fox have been banged up too?

EDWARDS: “Yeah, they’re just coming off. But that’s the way it is. We’ll be ready to kick it off at 2 [PM].

Q: Looking back to your time in New York, why do these things always seem to happen with teams that are having problems to begin with?

EDWARDS: ”[New York’s] started early. This is easy. This is only about three or four guys. I had 18 on IR [in New York], 11 of them starters. This is kid’s stuff right now.”

Q: It seems like you have a black cloud over your head?

EDWARDS: “I know one thing: generally after the cloud leaves there’s a rainbow. So, there’ll be a rainbow. When that comes I don’t know, but there’s going to be a rainbow after the storm. It’s cloudy right now.”

Q: As far as Derrick Johnson goes, if he doesn’t practice, is there is a deadline when he has to be here?

EDWARDS: “No.”

Q: Could he fly in on Sunday to Denver and play?

EDWARDS: “That would be tough. That’s an emotional decision when you look at a player like that and where’s he at. When you lose a parent it’s different. You have to look the player in the eye and see where he’s at. I’ll call him later this afternoon.”

Q: Denver is struggling right now and with two teams in the same situation someone is going to get good news after this Sunday?

EDWARDS: “They need a win and we need a win. They still have a chance and they do. If some things fall right for them and they win out they’ve got a great opportunity. Ours is a little bit different but we still need to win a football game and it’s what we’re preparing to do. A lot of young guys will probably be involved in this and if that’s the cards we’ve been dealt we have to play them.”

Q: Mathematically you haven’t been eliminated and it’s a bit like last year, but is the message different this year because you’re further back?

EDWARDS: “The good message for us is to win a game. Our inability to score points is a bit of a problem right now. We’re averaging 12 points in the last four games - hard to win a lot of games. Unless we can do a better job of taking the ball away and score some points in the Gold Zone it’s tough. You’ve got to figure that out. The players are the players and we’ve got to put them in position to make the plays and they have to be able to do that.”

Q: Is Brodie starting?

EDWARDS: “If he feels good tomorrow and everything’s OK, yeah, he’ll be the starter.”

Q: If he’s hurting and Tyler’s out what do you do?

EDWARDS: “It gets kind of interesting after that and my luck with quarterbacks….”

Q: If Tyler’s not your third do you have to go get somebody?

EDWARDS: “I don’t know that. We’ll find out how bad it is later this afternoon. But that’s a possibility.”

Q: You’re not going to go out there with only two quarterbacks?

EDWARDS: “That wouldn’t be wise, but we’ll see. There are some out there, always a guy out there.”

Q: Will you have three QB’s when you kickoff Sunday?

EDWARDS: “I would like that but if it’s not possible you cross your fingers and go with two. Eddie’s [Kennison] done it but that’s not fair to the team or Eddie. You don’t want to do that.”
